Welcome to Mt. Angel

Welcome to Mt. Angel, Oregon. This little town, founded in the late 1800s by German settlers, has an Old World flavor which is heightened by the many Bavarian style storefronts and the beautiful Benedictine Abbey. Mt. Angel celebrates its German heritage each year during the Oktoberfest, one of Oregon's largest festivals. More than 300,000 people attend the four-day event, which has been held in Mt. Angel for more than 40 years.

For over forty years the Chamber has worked to improve the livability and economic environment of our community. We are a nonprofit organization without any paid staff. All of our work is performed by Board members, Chamber members, and volunteers. Among its many contributions are the following:

  • Acquisition (with financial help from Oktoberfest) of the twin statutes of dancing children atop the fountain in the center of town;
  • maintenance of the fountain and surrounding flower bed;
  • Fourth of July parade and glorious fireworks display in the evening;
  • Vibrant flower baskets in front of local businesses and elsewhere during the summer;
  • The visitors kiosk on Main Street directing tourists to various attractions in town;
  • The annual (February) Wurstfest festival, which celebrates our German heritage with polka bands, local dancers, hand-crafted sausages, and much more;
  • The annual (December) Hazelnut Fest featuring of course hazelnuts (aka “filberts”), an important crop for many local farmers, and other goods for sale in time for Christmas;
  • First Citizen banquets which every year honor individuals and businesses who have made significant contributions to our community;
  • The annual Community Forum with updates from Marion County Commissioners and our state representatives;
  • Candidates night when candidates for city, county, and state offices present their respective platforms.

Please become a member (individual memberships are available and you don't have to live in Mt. Angel to join) and/or volunteer to help at our many activities. We are a lively and fun group. Your contributions will be deeply appreciated and well spent. With your involvement, we can make our community an even greater place to live in.
